From Apprentice to Operator and Beyond

Tim Herbert joined Grand Entrance in 2015 as a manufacturing apprentice. He has since worked hard to achieve two NVQ’s and an EAL qualification and become a fully-fledged Window & Door Manufacturing Operative. “Working for Grand Entrance is great,” says Tim. “I joined when I was 20 and since I started they have trained and supported me at every step to gain qualifications relevant to the job I want to do. I get a lot of help from the team, time to study and the opportunity to better myself that many other employers don’t offer. I am looking forward to continuing my training with Grand Entrance; the next step for me is learning more about estimating.

Alan Sadler To Support GM Fundraising’s Paddle2Pedal

Profix Group MD Alan Sadler is gearing up to support the latest GM Fundraising challenge, but this time to support a group of 12 ladies from the fenestration industry as they prepare to take part in the first ever all-female GM Fundraising challenge, Paddle2Pedal. In less than 2 weeks, the team will be setting out to canoe 100 miles down the River Wye from Glasbury. Paddling approximately 20 miles a day, they will finish up in Chepstow on Day 5. Here they will abseil down the rock face at Symonds Yat, before getting on their bikes to cycle 120 miles to Hope House Children’s Hospice in Oswestry where they’ll meet the very children and families.

The Heritage Option

Flush sash windows are a familiar part of the UK’s architectural landscape.  Widely used throughout the 1800’s, many of them are still in place today and  with windows over 100 years old, it is not surprising that many are draughty, rotten and don’t work properly.  A staggering 26% of heat loss escapes through windows alone, making them a key area of improvement when it comes to renovation.  Balancing the requirements of conservation with improving a building’s energy efficiency is a nightmare and replacement timber windows are expensive and may not offer all the efficiency benefits that comes with PVC-U.  The R9 Window Collection from Profix provides a cost effective, efficient and elegant alternative. The R9 collection.

Efficiency and Security with Pro-Therm Windows

The emphasis often shifts in the window industry from security to energy efficiency and back again depending on the latest product innovations or legislation. Regardless of trend, the ideal window should offer both. Pro-Therm PVC-U windows from Profix don't follow fashion in this sense - high thermal efficiency ratings and Secured by Design accreditation, available in a range of styles, means they're a great choice for any new build or replacement window project, clearly meeting objectives of many social housing providers.

Efficient

Pro-Therm windows carry the BS EN ISO 14001 Environmental standard, meaning they meet environmental regulations and improve efficiency and environmental performance. Furthermore, the Green Guide To Specification rates Pro-Therm windows as A+ thanks to their manufacture.

The Ultimate Patio Door From Profix

Whether it is part of an extension or new build design, the option to link the outside-in, using large opening apertures is without doubt the latest trend in home design and renovation.  Traditionally, bi-folding door sets are the door of choice to provide this result, but the Swing and Slide doors from Profix offer a practical alternative. Swing and Slide doors are a patio door that slides and swings into position, rather than using a concertina action like the bi-fold which takes up space adjacent to the doors.  The door set only has visible hardware on the master door, and can be opened independently to the rest of the door set; the remaining panels show no.
